Oilers Defeat Jets 4-1 as Stuart Skinner Wins in Return

The Edmonton Oilers are safely in a playoff spot as they finish out their 2024-25 regular season campaign. On Sunday (Apr. 13), they took on the best team in the NHL, the Winnipeg Jets, looking to pick up two points as they try to secure home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In Stuart Skinner’s return from injury, the Oilers were able to pick up a 4-1 victory, and here is a brief recap.

Game Recap

The first period started a little slow, and there were no goals through the first 20 minutes of play. Both Skinner and Eric Comrie played well between the pipes in the opening frame, as the Oilers outshot the Jets 10-7. In the second period, both teams got a bit more aggressive, and Connor Brown got things going with his 13th goal of the season on an assist from Connor McDavid.

The Jets were able to tie the game on the man advantage later in the period on a goal from Alex Iafallo, with assists from Mark Scheifele and Colin Miller. Adam Henrique was able to pick up a goal before the second period ended, giving the Oilers a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

The Jets weren’t able to get anything going in the third period, but the Oilers were. Corey Perry scored his 18th goal of the season with an assist from Derek Ryan, and it was all the Oilers from there. Viktor Arvidsson scored his 15th goal of the season in an empty net to seal the game and give the Oilers a 4-1 victory.

Looking Forward

The Oilers are back in action on Monday (Apr. 14) in a matchup against their first-round playoff opponent, the Los Angeles Kings, and that will be an important game for both teams. The Jets are back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 16) against the Anaheim Ducks, and while they have already won the Presidents’ Trophy, it will be nice to continue staying loose and trying to add two points and a win to their already impressive campaign.
