Oilers Linked to Right-Shot Defenseman Who Could Finally Boost Their Stanley Cup Hopes

The Edmonton Oilers need help on their blue line, and according to a top source, Ryan Lindgren could be a free agency option to be that help.

After a Game 7 disappointment in 2024, the Edmonton Oilers once again fell in the Stanley Cup Finals in 2025, losing in six games to the same team, and now, they head into the off-season with some potential changes on the way.

Without much money to spend or very high value assets, the Oilers don't have too much freedom heading into the off-season, but with a little money to spend, they'll no doubt be targeting an upgrade to their blue line.

Now, The Fourth Period have linked them to a very intriguing name, revealing that they are one of three teams that would make sense for former Rangers and Avalanche blue liner Ryan Lindgren.

The 27-year old has 405 NHL games under his belt thus far, and after playing in some key post-season games over the past few years, he's battle tested and the perfect fit on the Oilers right side.

On his last deal, Lindgren was earning $4.5 million a season, and given that the Oilers have roughly $12 million to spend, it's likely that they could fit his projected (by The Athletic) $4 million salary into their budget.

In his career, Lindgren hasn't been a massive offensive producer, but with a career high of 22 points a season ago, he's finding his role in the NHL, and it's something that would suit this high powered offense well.

Ultimately, Lindgren is expected to have many suitors this summer, but given their back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Finals, they're a team ready to get over the hump, so this could be a deal that works out for both parties.
