Oilers Missed Their Shot at Acquiring Star Goalie of Original Six Team, per NHL Insider

NHL insider David Pagnotta revealed that the Oilers nearly came close to acquiring the Bruins' star goalie Jeremy Swayman, but it ultimately failed.

The Edmonton Oilers once again fell just short in the Stanley Cup Finals, and one reason that many fans, insiders, and analysts have blamed is, yet again, the team's goaltending situation.

That's led many to want the team to move on from Stuart Skinner or make some kind of changes this summer.

The problem is, they have tried, but have failed thus far; they haven't made any changes in their net, despite reportedly checking in on John Gibson before he was ultimately traded to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta revealed that the team looked to acquire Jeremy Swayman from the Bruins back in November 2024, but ultimately, they were given a harsh no from Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney.

'The Oilers re-engaged before Anaheim traded John Gibson to Detroit to at least see what the pricetag was; other than an inquiry to Boston I think in November for Jeremy Swayman, I haven't gotten the sense they've heavily explored the goalie market.'

The Bruins signed Swayman to an eight-year contract in 2024

The Bruins did not want to move on from Jeremy Swayman after signing him to an eight-year deal in the summer of 2024. This lengthy contract proves that the Bruins believe in Swayman for the future, despite his recent struggles.

The Oilers, at the moment, appear to be ready to start next season with the same tandem in net, returning with Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. Whether that translates to success remains to be seen.

If Boston struggles again next season, however, Oilers GM Stan Bowman may come calling Don Sweeney again, and while there's always the likelihood that he turns down their offers again, there's always a chance things could materialize, especially if the return haul is a good one.
