On TSN Free Agent Frenzy Day, it has been reported that Corey Perry has signed a deal which will see him head to Los Angeles to play with the Kings.

The full details of the trade have not been announced yet, but it has been speculated that Perry signed a one-year deal with his salary and bonuses being around the $3.5M mark.

Corey Perry’s time as an Edmonton Oiler

Perry only spent a season and a half in Oil Country, where he played a total of 119 games and scored 27 goals, while picking up 16 assists in the process. 43 points in those 119 games, is the production that Perry saw in the orange and blue. On the power play, he ended up with six goals and nine points.

Perry in the playoffs played 41 games across two postseason berths, where he made it to back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals with the Oilers and unfortunately lost to the Florida Panthers in both appearances. Perry was able to score 11 goals, with six assists, for 17 points. Perry was on fire in the playoffs last season, as he scored ten times and picked up 14 points in his 22 games. Hence the nickname “Scorey” Perry.

What’s next for Corey Perry?

With Perry set to lace up next season with the Los Angeles Kings, his goal will be to make it back to the Stanley Cup Final, but also beat the Oilers in the postseason with his new team. If both teams see each other in the first round of the playoffs, that will be the fifth year in a row that the Oilers and Kings have faced off against one another.

Edmonton on the other hand, will be looking to find a player to fill the gap in their lineup with Perry’s departure. It is hard to tell what their planned direction is right now, but I know that the organization is looking to get younger and are doing that by trading some pieces and re-signing some pieces as well.
