Another player signing has been announced, as the Edmonton Oilers have signed former Edmonton Oil King Curtis Lazar to a one-year contract, with an average annual value of $775K.

Curtis Lazar is the seventh player that the Edmonton Oilers have either re-signed or signed into the organization in the last 48 hours. Kasperi Kapanen, Noah Philp, Evan Bouchard, Riley Stillman, Matt Tomkins, and Andrew Mangiapane, notably a former Calgary Flame.

Curtis Lazar’s player profile

Here is what Bob Stauffer had to say about Lazar;

Hard-working, honest right-shot Center (51.2% on face-offs last season).
Slots in as a 4C for the @EdmontonOilers who can PK as well.

Before his time as a professional player in the show, Lazar would play one more season with Edmonton, scoring 41 goals in 58 games before leading the Kings to the 2014 Memorial Cup championship. Lazar was selected #17 by the Ottawa Senators in the 2013 NHL draft and made his debut in 2014-15.

So far in his 11 year career, the 30 year old has played a total of 572 games and has 47 goals, with 78 assists under his belt. 125 points, 169 penalty minutes and an average time on ice per game of 11:56. The Oilers will be the seventh team that Lazar will have played for – Senators, Flames, Sabres, Bruins, Canucks and the New Jersey Devils.

Where will Lazar fit in with the Oilers

Lazar will be a solid addition to the Oilers fourth line and will fit in well at the center position. Last season, he won over 50% of his face-offs and that is a huge part of his game that his teammates and the organization will be looking to continue.

Winning those draws will be key and that will give Edmonton chances to have more offensive zone possession and win the draws when they matter most. Curtis Lazar could be the player that the Oilers look to, if a face-off needed to be won. He will be relied on in those moments.
