The Edmonton Oilers released a statement Sunday addressing the medical emergency that briefly halted Saturday night's Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Place.
Just minutes into the highly anticipated game, attention shifted abruptly from the ice to the stands behind the Oilers bench.
According to Sportsnet's Louie DeBrusk, a fan collapsed on the stairs, prompting an immediate response from emergency services and team personnel.
The incident caused a nearly ten-minute stoppage in play, as NHL rules require an ambulance presence during games, delaying action until a replacement vehicle arrived.

In an official statement released on X, the Oilers detailed the incident and thanked those involved.
"During last night's Battle of Alberta game at Rogers Place, a fan experienced a medical emergency & was attended to by emergency personnel, OEGSE arena & team staff & fans. The game was paused to allow the time & space needed to attend to the fan & prepare them for transport to the hospital."
The team also expressed their gratitude to those who swiftly intervened.
"The Edmonton Oilers & OEGSE are grateful to the emergency services personnel, our OEGSE staff & the fans who assisted in attending to this emergency," the statement read. "Our thoughts & prayers are with the fan, their family & loved ones & we wish them a speedy recovery."
The unexpected event momentarily overshadowed the return of Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl from injury, but once play resumed, Draisaitl reclaimed the spotlight by scoring his 50th and 51st goals of the season, leading Edmonton to a dramatic 3–2 overtime victory.
In doing so, Draisaitl became just the second active player with at least four seasons of 50-plus goals, along with Washington Capitals star winger Alex Ovechkin.
With the win, the Oilers (42–26–5, 89 points) matched the Los Angeles Kings in points before the latter's win on Sunday moved them back up two points in the standings.
