The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to travel to Edmonton on Thursday night for a crucial game against the Edmonton Oilers, and one familiar name will return to Rogers Place. Goaltender Stuart Skinner, who played six seasons with the Edmonton team before his trade to Pittsburgh in exchange for Tristan Jarry, will meet his former teammates in a tense reunion.

Notably, Skinner’s first appearance with the Penguins came against the Oilers, where he had a rough outing, finishing with 17 saves in 22 shots as Edmonton claimed a 6-4 win. However, since his sluggish start, Skinner has settled down with the team and has played a crucial role in recent games.

If the first two games are excluded, the 27-year-old is 6-1-0, allowing just 11 goals, posting a 1.57 GAA, and recording a .931 save percentage.

The veteran goalie would be eager to play against his former team and make his mark, but it does not look like he will get that chance.

Stuart Skinner Unlikely to Start Against Oilers

Despite the storyline, Skinner is unlikely to get the start on Thursday night. Having just completed a game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday, the veteran goaltender is expected to remain on the bench when Pittsburgh faces Edmonton.

Skinner has shown before that he can be consistent. During the 2022-23 season, he posted a career-best .914 save percentage. This year has been more up and down, recording a 16-12-4 with 2.73 GAA and a .893 save percentage. However, the 27-year-old has started to find his footing. He has won 6 games in his last 7 starts, including Wednesday’s 4-1 win over the Flames.

Meanwhile, Jarry has been solid since joining Edmonton. Since the swap, he is 4-1-1 with a 2.48 GAA and a .904 save percentage.
