The Edmonton Oilers are set to get a key piece back in the lineup for their key regular-season finale, but questions around Zach Hyman’s injury remain unanswered.

Hyman will make a late-season return on Thursday to face the Vancouver Canucks, along with his teammates, after missing five games with an undisclosed issue that was never described in further detail by the team.

The forward's return comes just days before the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the Oilers set to get their postseason going on either Saturday or Sunday.

Hyman has 31 goals and 51 points in 57 games this season and is expected to skate alongside Connor McDavid on the top line for the game against the Cancuks. He is also expected to be part of Edmonton’s first power play unit.

Despite his return and seemingly being healthy enough to reappear in a game, Hyman made it clear he will not be sharing details on what sidelined him, maintaining the secrecy about his injury.

“I don’t want to be too specific, but you want to be playing your best in the playoffs,” Hyman said. “It’s never easy to sit out, but things were lingering. I wanted it taken care of, not getting worse. Now it’s getting better.”

Given the winger's comments, there is a possibility he re-injured the wrist for which he already underwent surgery in mid-November.

Hyman added that the decision to miss some of the past few games was based on setting him up to contribute during the playoffs.

“It was taking care of something to make sure that I’m able to contribute at the level that you need to in order to make sure that the team has success in the playoffs,” Hyman said. “In the playoffs, you play a little bit more physical, obviously, so I gotta make sure that I’m ready to play at that level,” Hyman said.

The Oilers enter the final game of the regular season still battling for positioning in the Pacific Division, with potential playoff seeding scenarios still in play.

Edmonton hosts the Canucks at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday.
