Zach Hyman left Game 4 between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars on Tuesday after appearing to get injured on a hit from Mason Marchment.
The play happened in the first period as Hyman was carrying the puck out of Edmonton’s zone. He made a move just before the blueline to avoid the stick of Dallas defender Esa Lindell and got clipped up high by Marchment.

Hyman started the game on the Oilers’ top forward line alongside Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He logged 3:11 over five shifts before heading down the tunnel to Edmonton’s dressing room and was ruled out for the rest of the game during the second period.
Losing Hyman for any amount of time would be a tough break for the Oilers, who lost Connor Brown to injury during their Game 3 win over the Stars on Sunday. Dallas defenceman Alex Petrovic levelled a huge hit on Brown and the winger was knocked out of the game. He didn’t suit up in Game 4 and could be out for a few games.
Viktor Arvidsson drew into the lineup in the absence of Brown for the Oilers in Game 4. Arvidsson last played during Edmonton’s second-round series against the Vegas Golden Knights. He was scratched in favour of Kasperi Kapanen, who wound up scoring the series-winning goal.
After scoring 54 goals during the regular season last year and 16 more goals in the playoffs, Hyman’s production has cooled off in 2024-25. He scored 27 goals in 73 games during the regular season and has five goals through Edmonton’s 15 playoff games.
But that doesn’t mean Hyman hasn’t been having an impact. He leads the league with a whopping 111 hits during the playoffs, which is an average of more than seven per game. That physical play is what helps open up time and space for the other Oilers on the ice.
