On February 13, 1999, the Blackhawks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-2 in the final game at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Toronto didn't send off its old home on victorious terms thanks to an offensive onslaught by Chicago. Tony Amonte, Reid Simpson, and Doug Gilmour all lit the lamp for the Blackhawks before the Maple Leafs even got on the board.
The Leafs responded with a pair of second-period goals, but the Blackhawks dominated the third period. Simpson scored again, Eric Daze added a tally, and Bob Probert scored the final goal at Maple Leaf Gardens.
Jocelyn Thibault made 24 saves to backstop the Blackhawks' victory.
