The Ontario Reign went 1-2-0-0 during the week, ending a five-game road trip.
The Reign dropped the first game of the week against the Henderson Silver Knights by a final score of 6-2. Ontario boat-raced out to a 2-0 start, but six unanswered goals propelled the Silver Knights to victory, extending their win streak to seven games.
The Reign hit their final stop of the road trip with a two-game series against the San Jose Barracuda. Ontario took the first meeting, in a rematch of their first-round series in the previous playoffs, with a 6-1 thumping, with four players recording either their first professional point, goal, or North American goal.
San Jose would get their revenge less than 24 hours later with a 4-2 victory, earning the weekend split with Ontario.
With the recap of the week over with, let’s see which Reign players made this segment’s three stars of the week!
Kenny Connors, Jakub Dvořák, & Jack Hughes
Kenny Connors, Jakub Dvořák, and Jack Hughes are honorable mentions for scoring their first professional goals in North America in the Reign’s 6-1 victory over the Barracuda. Connors had two points throughout the week as well. Good job, fellas!

Koehn Ziemmer
Stats: Two games played, zero goals, two assists, two points, +3 rating, two shots on goal
Koehn Ziemmer played in two games (both against San Jose) and recorded two assists for his first professional points. Ziemmer hasn’t seen much game action this season, but looked great in his showing in the two games against the Barracuda.
Ziemmer’s first professional point was a primary assist; in fact, both of his points were. His first professional point occurred on an Aatu Jamsen deflection. While it wasn’t a goal, it was a good display of how accurate, quick, and lethal his shot can be when he has time and space to get it off.

Erik Portillo
Stats: One game played, 1-0-0-0 record, 36 saves on 37 shots faced, .973 save percentage
Erik Portillo played in only one game and was damn good. Portillo’s lone start of the week saw him turn aside a season-high 36 shots for his third win of the season. Portillo has not allowed more than two goals in a game since his season-opening loss to the Tucson Roadrunners, where he surrendered five goals.
He’s bounced back nicely since returning from his back injury.

Taylor Ward
Stats: Three games played, two goals, one assist, three points, +/- 0, 10 SOG
There is nobody who is red hot on the Reign right now more than Taylor Ward. Ward continued his hot stretch on the road trip with another three points during the week. Ward didn’t record a point in the team’s 6-2 loss to Henderson, but followed that up with a goal and an assist in Ontario’s 6-1 victory and a power-play goal in a loss the following night.
Ward currently leads the team in goals (5) and points (8) in nine games.
A Cuda hate to see Wardo coming!!
