The Ottawa Senators today acquired forward Riley Kidney from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for goalie Hunter Shepard and forward Jake Chiasson. The Canadiens’ AHL affiliate leads the North Division, while the Senators’ AHL affiliate is sixth in the North Division. The deal also included defenseman Ryan O’Rourke going to Ottawa for future considerations.

Kidney this season in six games at Laval has an assist, and he’s a plus-two. He’s also appeared in 46 games in the ECHL with the Trois-Rivieres Lions. Kidney has 33 points on 11 goals and 22 assists. He’s a -12 with a power-play goal. In 127 career AHL games, he has 37 points on 11 goals and 26 assists. He’s a minus-nine with two power-play goals and two game-winning goals. The Montreal Canadiens drafted him 63rd overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Shepard is in his first season with the Belleville Senators. In 15 games, he’s 6-7-2 with a 3.65 goals-against average and an .885 save percentage. Shepard has appeared in one game for Ottawa this season, suffering a loss, allowing two goals on 12 shots. He spent his first five seasons with the Hershey Bears, going 78-26-12 with a 2.22 goals-against average, a .914 save percentage, and 11 shutouts. In 47 career Calder Cup Playoff games, he is 30-17-0 with a 2.44 goals-against average, a .909 save percentage, and four shutouts.
Chiasson, in 20 games this season, has an assist, which is his first point in his AHL career in 40 games. He’s a career minus-seven and is even this season. He’s expected to be assigned to the Trois-Rivieres Lions.
O’Rourke, in nine games this season, has two assists, and he’s a minus-one. In 11 games with the Lions in the ECHL, he has a goal and is a plus-two. In 238 career AHL games, he has 42 points on six goals and 36 assists. He’s a -27 with three game-winning goals.
