The NHL has been releasing the top 25 players of the past 25 years, as voted by the fans. The first team featured a list of players who debuted before 2000. Joe Sakic, Teemu Selanne, and Joe Thornton are some of the players who won the vote. The second team was comprised of players who debuted between 2000-2010. Patrick Kane was one of the seven players voted on.
It's hard to believe that the Blackhawks' domination of the 2010s is well behind us in the rear-view mirror. Harder still is to accept the fact that Patrick Kane is a Detroit Red Wing (at least until free agency).
Patrick Kane was drafted as the number one overall pick in 2007 and debuted that season. The playmaking winger helped bring three Stanley Cups to Chicago in 2010, 2013, and 2015. Kane, alongside other Blackhawks, helped revive hockey in a city that had mostly forgotten about the NHL.
Over 1302 games played in the NHL, Kane scored 492 goals, 851 assists, and 1343 points. Patrick Kane played in 143 postseason games with 53 goals and 138 points. In addition to his three Stanley Cups, Kane has the Calder Trophy (2008), a Conn Smythe (2013), a Hart, Art Ross, and the Ted Lindsay (all in 2016).
Patrick Kane's career in Chicago finished in 2023 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. Kane held the following franchise records: second in assists and points (behind Stan Mikita), third in goals (behind Bobby Hull and Mikita), and third in games played (behind Mikita and Duncan Keith).
While Kane is contemplating the next step in his career, I'll deny the reality that Kane might never return as a Blackhawk.
Patrick Kane is forever a Chicago Blackhawk, and one of the greatest of all time.
