Patrik Allvin Provides Update After Scary Incident Involving Top Prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin has shared an update on top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki after a scary incident in an AHL game over the weekend.

The Abbotsford Canucks, American Hockey League affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, are on a tear of late as they've won eight straight games and are now just four points back of the Ontario Reign for second in the Pacific Division.

A big reason for the team's success this season is Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Vancouver's first-round pick back in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

The Tullinge, Sweden native has put up 21 points (14 goals, seven assists) in 24 games for Abbotsford, while also making 11 appearances in the National Hockey League with Vancouver during the 2024-25 campaign.

As Lekkerimaki looked to continue being a key contributor for Abbotsford this weekend as they faced Utah's affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners, there was a bit of a scary incident during Saturday's game involving the 20-year-old prospect.

With just seven minutes remaining in the third period, Lekkerimaki was backchecking and attempting to break up a scoring chance when he gets tangled up with a Roadrunners player, lost his footing and crashed into the end boards head first.

Eventually, Lekkerimaki was able to get up and went back to Abbotsford's locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game, nor did he suit up for Sunday's game.

Patrik Allvin provides positive update on Jonathan Lekkerimaki

While an Abbotsford Canucks spokesperson said on Sunday that Jonathan Lekkerimaki was still being evaluated, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin provided a positive update on the team's top prospect.

When asked by Jeff Paterson of Canucks Army for an update on Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Patrik Allvin said that their still awaiting word on him, but he believes that Jonathan Lekkerimaki's injury isn't serious, which is great news.

'Patrik Allvin just told me he believes Lekkerimaki was not seriously injured in awkward fall last night in Tucson.' Allvin said.

We'll have to wait for an update from the Abbotsford Canucks on Jonathan Lekkerimaki, but hopefully he's doing alright and that fans can see him back on the ice very soon.
