
The Montreal Canadiens will face the Vancouver Canucks tonight in Vancouver. Today, the team announced that winger Patrik Laine will miss 3-4 months as he undergoes surgery to repair a core muscle injury. Laine hasn’t played since October 16th against Nashville. In five games this season, he has recorded one assist and has a minus-three rating. The injury likely means he could be back after the Olympic break in order for him to return fully healthy. Laine has played in only 181 games out of 328 possible games over the last four seasons as injuries have played a role in his recent career.

The 27-year-old was drafted second overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Laine made his NHL debut on October 13, 2016, in which he recorded his first career NHL point on a goal in the second period of that game. Laine spent 4.5 seasons in Winnipeg recording 250 points in 306 games. He scored 140 goals, adding 110 assists, and finished with an even in plus/minus. The Jets then traded him to Columbus where he would spend 3.5 seasons. Je played in 174 games recording 138 points on 64 goals and 74 assists; he was a -58. Columbus then traded him to the Canadiens where over the last two seasons he’s played in 57 games recording 34 points on 20 goals and 14 assists; he is a -17.
