Penguins Defenseman Makes Season Debut in AHL
USA TODAY Sports

After going the entire training camp and preseason on the Pittsburgh Penguins injured list, defenseman Will Butcher has finally skated in a game for the 2023-24 year.

After clearing waivers, Butcher made his season, and Penguins organizational, debut with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

The Penguins made no official statement, but Butcher made his way to Wilkes-Barre following the clearing of waivers.

Butcher joined a WBS lineup that has seem to moving and shaking over the last few weeks, but was in a role as the seventh defenseman.

The WBS Penguins played will 11 forwards and seven defensemen in their 3-2 overtime victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Butcher even recorded an assist in his first game with the organization and recorded a shot on goal.

At 28-years-old, Butcher is looking to work his way back as an NHL regular, and has that kind of potential, especially after wrapping up his rookie season with 44 points and on the NHL’s All-Rookie Team for 2017-18.

If the Penguins get into more injury trouble on the blue line, they have plenty of options for reinforcements and Butcher is right in the middle of that pack.
