Penguins Move Rust to LTIR, Activate Two Others
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Before the Pittsburgh Penguins game Monday against the Minnesota Wild, the team made several roster moves, including moving winger Bryan Rust to the long-term injured list.

By retroactively moving Rust to LTIR, he will not be eligible to return to the Penguins lineup until the Jan. 2 home game against the Washington Capitals.

Last week, coach Mike Sullivan termed Rust out “week-to-week.”

With the roster moves, nearly all of Rust’s $5.125 million average annual value will be available to the team in the LTIR pool.

Before the game, the Penguins activated winger Rickard Rakell from LTIR and forward Noel Acciari from IR. Rakell had not played since Nov. 19 but was in the lineup Monday. It was Acciari’s first game since Nov. 30.
