Penguins Sign Tomas Galvas To Entry-Level Contract
USA TODAY Sports via Reuters Connect

The Pittsburgh Penguins have locked up one of their selections from the 2026 NHL Draft. According to a team announcement, the Penguins have signed defenseman Tomas Galvas to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Pittsburgh selected Galvas with the 54th overall pick just a few weeks ago. Although we have yet to see how he will develop, Galvas was considered somewhat of a reach in the second round. Before the draft, Elite Prospects did not rank Galvas in their top-50 of European skaters, and Daily Faceoff ranked him as the 82nd-best player available.

Regardless, he is now in the Penguins organization and will remain there for the foreseeable future. Galvas, 20, has spent the last three years with the Czech Extraliga’s Bílí Tygři Liberec. This past season, he registered eight goals and 24 points in 32 games with a +16 rating. Although it wasn’t enough to lead the league in scoring among defensemen, Galvas had the most points of any under-20 defenseman by a significant margin.

Additionally, Galvas had somewhat of a coming-out party at last year’s IIHF World Junior Championship. Helping Czechia to their second Gold Medal Game in the last quarter century, Galvas scored three goals and nine points in seven tournament contests with a +7 rating. Again, it wasn’t good enough to lead the tournament in scoring, but Galvas tied in scoring with top prospects like Porter Martone and the recently drafted Viggo Björck.

Unless something changes, it’s expected that Galvas will continue with the Bílí Tygři Liberec on loan for the 2026-27 season. However, assuming he has another solid campaign overseas, Galvas could feature for the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins toward the end of next year.
