Penguins Sign Well-Traveled Winger Anthony Beauvillier

After addressing the defense earlier in the day, the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday afternoon signed free agent winger Anthony Beauvillier to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.

Originally a first-round draft pick by the New York Islanders, Beauvillier, 27, has 115 goals, 246 points in 550 career games. He got traded twice and played for three teams last season — the Vancouver Canucks, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Nashville Predators — totaling five goals, 12 assists.

He’s taking a significant paycut, coming off a contract that had a $4.15 AAV.

He would seem to project as a player who will compete for a bottom-six role with the Penguins.

Among the Penguins’ earlier moves, they signed defensemen Matt Grzelcyk and re-signed defenseman Ryan Shea.
