Philadelphia Flyers Surprisingly Waive 25-Year Old Forward

The Philadelphia Flyers have a need for some young, promising talent, but on Monday, they waived a former sixth-round pick that has shown potential.

This season hasn't gone the way that the Philadelphia Flyers expected, and after some drama caused John Tortorella to be fired, things have been absolute chaos for the team in recent weeks.

Now, they've officially made another intriguing move, as the team have placed 25-year old forward Olle Lycksell on waivers, with the former sixth-round draft pick likely to head back to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Lycksell was a sixth-round pick back in the 2017 NHL Draft, coming to North America in 2022/23, putting up a solid 14 goals and 45 points in 53 games for the Phantoms that year, with the team hoping he could develop.

While he's continued to have success in the AHL, that hasn't translated to the NHL as of yet, as he has just one goal and 10 points in 37 games played over the last two seasons with the Flyers, and despite that potential, he hasn't gotten consistent playing time as of late.

The 5-foot-10 winger still has potential however, with the team hoping that he passes through waivers and can continue to develop with the Phantoms, but sooner, rather than later, they're going to need to give him a lengthy stint in the NHL to officially see what he can do.

Unfortunately for the Flyers, the 2024/25 season hasn't been a good one for them, and with the team out of playoff contention, this is likely where they should be putting players like Lycksell into their lineup, but perhaps after 45 games at the NHL level, the team already know what they've got.
