Former NHL defenseman and current analyst PK Subban blasted the Edmonton Oilers and their overall team culture after their 2nd straight Cup Final loss to the Florida Panthers, while also having words for captain Connor McDavid.

Make it 2 straight Stanley Cup Finals in which the Edmonton Oilers suffered a frustrating and heartbreaking defeat to the Florida Panthers, who are officially back to back champions

Sam Bennett won the Conn Smythe Trophy after scoring an incredible 15 goals during the postseason, while Brad Marchand scored 6 goals alone in the Cup Final itself.

The Oilers will have a serious situation before long, as superstar captain Connor McDavid will be set to enter the final year of his current contract in 2025-26.

Former NHL defenseman and current ESPN analyst PK Subban stated the uncomfortable fact that not only is it time for McDavid to begin assessing his future in Edmonton, but that their culture simply couldn't match the winning culture that's been built by the Panthers in recent years.

When you look at Connor McDavid, this is 8, 9, possibly 10 seasons, it's been long enough. This team hasn't been good enough around him. For him to have been able to perform the way that he has over the tenure of his career, including in the playoffs - we saw the performance that he put on last year in the STnaley Cup Final. It's amazing, but hockey is a team sport. You cannot win by yourself.

For me, look at Florida. They traded for Sam Reinhart, traded for Sam Bennett, traded for Matthew Tkachuk, traded for Seth Jones at the Deadline, traded for Brad Marchand at the Deadline, picked up Forsling off waivers. That's all about GMs, presidents, and front offices. They managed to put some great players and build that culture. Edmonton's culture isn't even close.

For Edmonton, Connor McDavid has a question to ask himself - 'Is this where my future lies or not?' He has every right to look at all of his options over the next year.

The Oilers have gotten Leon Draisaitl to commit to a long-term future in Edmonton, recently locking him up to a mammoth extension. Whether they'll be able to get McDavid to do the same remains another story.
