
Alex DeBrincat was born on December 18, 1997, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. In 2010-11, DeBrincat played for the Victory Honda 13U AAA team. He would continue playing for Victory Honda on the 14U, 16U, and 18U teams. In 2013-14 he played for Lake Forest Academy in the USHS-Prep league as well as the MPHL. In 63 games combined, he recorded 139 points on 70 goals and 69 assists. He would go on to play in the Ontario Hockey League with the Erie Otters.
In his first season with the Otters, DeBrincat played in 68 games, recording 104 points on 51 goals and 53 assists. In his second season with Erie, he played in 60 games, recording 101 points on 51 goals and 50 assists. He would also go on to play for the U-20 National Team for the United States, taking home a Bronze Medal in five games, where he recorded a goal. In 2016-17 he spent his final season in the OHL, once again with the Erie Otters. In 63 games he recorded 127 points on 65 goals and 62 assists.
The Chicago Blackhawks selected DeBrincat with the 39th pick in the second round of the 2016 NHL Draft. He would sign with the Blackhawks and spend the 2017-18 season in the NHL.
Alex DeBrincat made his NHL debut on October 5, 2017. He wasted no time recording his first career point as he assisted on a goal scored by Patrick Sharp. DeBrincat finished that game with 22 shifts and 17:38 of ice time. He would go on to spend five seasons in Chicago playing in 368 games. DeBrincat recorded 307 points on 160 goals and 147 assists. The Blackhawks went on to trade DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators on July 7, 2022. He played in 82 games in his lone season in Ottawa. He recorded 66 points on 27 goals and 39 assists. The Michigan native made his way back home when the Senators traded him to the Detroit Red Wings on July 9, 2023. He has now played in 216 games, recording 189 points on 92 goals and 97 assists.
DeBrincat has played in 666 career NHL games with 562 points on 279 goals and 283 assists. On July 9, 2023, the Red Wings and DeBrincat agreed to a four-year extension, worth $31.5 million, which is a $7.875 million AAV.
