Player Profile: Alex Steeves

Alexander Steeves was born on December 10, 1999, in Bedford, New Hampshire. Steeves’ brother, Ben, plays for the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League. His brother, Matt, played at the University of Notre Dame. Alex is a left-shot forward who played for the U16 Manchester Monarchs junior team during the 2014-15 season and scored 17 goals with 21 assists in 28 games. The next season, Steeves moved to the U18 team and tallied seven goals and ten assists in 22 games before joining the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League.

In 39 games with Sioux City, the 6-foot, 200-pound winger collected five goals and six assists with a minus-14. During the 2016-17 season, Steeves moved on to the Dubuque Fighting Saints and registered six goals and 12 assists in 53 games, and added four points in eight postseason games. Steeves followed that with a breakout season where the forward scored 20 goals with 37 assists and six points in five playoff games. Steeves was also selected to the All-Academic Team and given the USHL Scholar-Athlete Award.

Alex Steeves Commits to University of Notre Dame

Steeves committed to the University of Notre Dame and played three seasons for the Fighting Irish. Over those seasons, Steeves collected 33 goals and 36 assists in 104 games. The forward was a second team conference All-Star during the 2020-21 season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Alex Steeves

Steeves signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 28, 2021, after going undrafted. During the 2021-22 season, Steeves scored 23 goals with 23 assists for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. Steeves would play four full seasons with the Marlies and total 135 goals and 111 assists.

Alex Steeves’ NHL Debut to today

On December 7, 2021, Alex Steeves made his NHL debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets and played 8:28 of ice time with two shots on goal. Steeves scored his first NHL goal on February 22, 2022, against the Carolina Hurricanes and also had an assist. Steeves played 15 total games for the Maple Leafs.

The Boston Bruins signed Steeves as a free agent on July 1, 2025. The New Englander has split time with the Bruins and the Providence Bruins this season and will be a Group 6 unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 season.
