Popular New Edmonton Oilers Defenseman Pledges to Make One Big Change to His Game

Luke Prokop was a very popular player in his time in the WHL, and now as he returns to Western Canada, he's pledged to make one big, exciting change to his game.

Luke Prokop was once a third-round pick of the Nashville Predators, and now, the 23-year old finds himself just one step away from the National Hockey League after spending the last two years in the AHL.

Now, he's joined the Bakersfield Condors, the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers, and as he's closing in on a potential NHL debut, he's started to address his future in hockey.

Prokop to get more physical ahead of the 2025/26 campaign?

Recently, the young Condors blue liner has revealed the one change he's going to make in his game to get himself noticed, revealing that he's going to start using his size and potentially getting more physical to get himself noticed in the Oilers organization.

'It's always been a little bit of the same old story with me. I believe I'm a very good skater, my hockey IQ is very good, I'm a good passer, I'm probably more on the defensive end, but when given the opportunity, I can provide offence as well.

The main part for me has always been realizing my size, how big I am, and being able to use that to my advantage when defending players against the rush or in the corners, adding a little bit of bite, adding a bit of grit to my game, which has been a little bit of an internal battle because that's not who I am off the ice. So being able to flip that switch when I put that gear on and be nasty to play against, and maybe get in a fight or two, I think it's just showing a bit more intimidation and being able to use my size.

Standing at 6-foot-5, Prokop has always been a very balanced player, but with the opportunity to intimidate, he clearly knows that he needs to bring something different to the table in 2025/26, so expect to see plenty of physicality in the AHL.

Whether that gets him to the NHL, only time will tell, but with motivation, a great story and the chance to get himself noticed, don't be shocked to hear more about Prokop moving forward.
