Princeton’s Sarah Fillier declares for 2024 PWHL Draft

Canadian Olympic gold medalist and Princeton forward Sarah Fillier announced via Instagram that she is declaring for the 2024 PWHL Draft.

“I can’t wait for the next chapter of my hockey career as a professional and to build upon what I learned at Princeton,” Fillier said. “I want to inspire the next generation of hockey players and girls to believe their dreams are within reach. All it takes is hard work, dedication, and some luck.

“If these past six years are any indication, I’m as lucky as they come,” she continued.

Fillier joined Princeton ahead of the 2018-19 season, leading the team in scoring with 22 goals and 35 assists for 57 points in her freshman year. She had the exact same offensive numbers in her sophomore campaign, then took the next two years off to play for Team Canada at the international level.

At 21, she made the Canadian National Team for the 2022 Beijing Olympics, helping the team win a gold medal. She scored eight goals and three assists for 11 points in seven games.

She’s represented Canada four times at the World Championship, winning three gold medals, most recently at the 2024 Championships in Utica, N.Y.

She returned to Princeton for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, finishing her college career with 93 goals and 101 assists for 194 points in 120 games.

With five games left in the season for the six PWHL clubs, Boston and New York are at the bottom of the standings, with a total of 22 and 20 points, respectively. Barring a winning streak or collapse from the other teams, they’re expected to be the two teams who miss the postseason.

The PWHL returns to action Thursday night, with Boston hosting Toronto and Minnesota travelling to Montreal. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m. EST.
