The New York Rangers have just announced an unexpected roster transaction as they assigned a forward to the Hartford Wolf Pack after they claimed Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

The Rangers have just recently claimed 23-year-old forward Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

However, while doing so they also announced that 23-year-old forward Matt Rempe would be reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

As one Rangers reporter, Mollie Walker of the New York Post, pointed out, this move was just so the Rangers remain cap-compliant for Tuesday night's game against the Dallas Stars.

Another issue pointed out by Walker was Rempe's suspension. Back on Dec. 22, 2024, Rempe received an eight-game suspension for elbowing and boarding Miro Heiskanen of the Dallas Stars. But Rempe now only has one game remaining of that suspension.

This doesn't mean that this is the end of Rempe being with the Rangers, as it was stated by Emily Kaplan of the NHL Network that the Rangers love him, his work ethic and attitude.

Rempe has played five games this season for the Rangers and scored 0 points. While in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack, he's fared better scoring 5 points (3 G, 2 A) in 18 games.

Rempe should attempt to return to the NHL as soon as possible, as his recent suspension cost him a significant amount of cash, as he lost $80K in pay for elbowing Heiskanen.
