The New York Rangers re-signed goaltender Igor Shesterkin to a four-year contract that carries an average annual value of $5.666 million, according to Mollie Walker of the New York Post.
The deal is the largest second contract for a goaltender in league history. The previous record was held by Sergei Bobrovsky, who made $5.625 million per year on his second contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
As many have already noted, the AAV and total compensation ($22,666,666) on Igor Shesterkin’s new four-year deal with the #NYR will be a record for a goalie on a second contract

Last season, Shesterkin went 16-14-3 with a 2.62 goals-against average and .916 save percentage. The numbers aren't eye-popping, but the 25-year-old has a lot of potential and was considered the best goaltending prospect in the entire league before making his NHL debut last season.
Shesterkin is a big part of New York's future, and the Rangers have a bright future ahead with him onboard alongside Alexis Lafreniere, Artemi Panarin, Adam Fox and many others.
Shesterkin's deal comes after the Philadelphia Flyers re-signed goaltender Carter Hart to a three-year extension worth $3.979 million annually.
The NHL's highest-paid goaltenders are Carey Price ($10.5 million AAV), Bobrovsky ($10 million AAV) and Andrei Vasilevskiy ($9.5 million AAV).
