Rasmus Andersson Linked to Toronto Maple Leafs

The Quinn Hughes saga has come to an end with him now being in Minnesota. Teams around the league are now shifting their focus to the next big defenseman. Rasmus Andersson is the name teams are asking about, with the Flames’ tough season, he’s a key piece for them to move to retain some future assets. Pierre LeBruin noted the Toronto Maple Leafs are a team to watch for the 29-year-old defenseman. Reports said Andersson would consider an extension if Toronto acquired him. He would be a great fit as the Maple Leafs have been without Chris Tanev, even with him back skating, along with Brandon Carlo. The issue is what could the Maple Leafs give up in return? They don’t have many young prospects or draft capital to move, so what could entice the Flames to move Andersson to Toronto remains to be seen.

Andersson, in 34 games this season, has 22 points on seven goals and 15 assists. He’s an even in plus/minus with two power-play goals, 66 blocked shots, and 17 hits. Andersson does have a no-movement clause, but Toronto would be a team he’d likely waive that for; he brings a $4.55 million AAV and is a free agent after this season.
