According to a team announcement, the Detroit Red Wings have re-signed Carter Mazur to a two-year, $1.75MM ($875K AAV) contract. Mazur was non-tendered by the Red Wings on Monday.

Mazur, a Michigan-native, has had much of his last two seasons derailed by injury. He missed the bulk of October through February of this season due to a lower-body injury sustained just six games into the season. Mazur returned to the Grand Rapids Griffins in early March and didn’t miss a beat, continuing the point-per-game performance that he began the season with. The Red Wings rewarded that production with a call-up in late-March, providing Mazur with the first NHL games since he sustained a season-ending elbow injury in his NHL debut during the 2024-25 season.

Mazur finished the 2025-26 season with 11 goals and 16 points in 16 games with the Griffins and no scoring in eight games with Detroit. A two-year extension will offer him the chance to work back to full health, then climb his way into a bottom-six role with Detroit. While he hasn’t recorded an NHL point yet, Mazur has recorded six shot blocks and 10 hits at the top level, marks that would stretch to 55 blocks and 91 hits across an 82-game season. Mazur has looked the part of a depth grinder in his few NHL minutes and will look to establish that role outright next season.
