Red Wings re-sign Patrick Kane to one-year, $3 million extension

In 2024-25, Kane scored 21 goals and 38 assists for 59 points in 72 regular-season games. In two seasons with the Red Wings, Kane has 41 goals and 65 assists for 106 points in 122 regular-season games.

Through 19 NHL seasons, Kane has 492 goals and 851 assists for 1,343 points in 1,302 career regular-season games with the Red Wings, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.

Kane’s best season was arguably 2015-16, finishing with a league-leading 106 points (46 goals and 60 assists), winning the Art Ross Trophy, the Ted Lindsay Award and the Hart Trophy.

Kane, who was taken No. 1 overall by the Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, has found plenty of success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring 53 goals and adding 85 assists for 138 points in 143 playoff games. He led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013 and 2015. In 2013, his nine goals and 10 assists for 19 points led to him being awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP.

Detroit finished the 2024-25 season with a 39-35-8 record with 86 points, sixth in the Atlantic Division and missing the playoffs for a ninth consecutive season. After a 13-17-4 start, the team fired head coach Derek Lalonde and replaced him with Todd McLellan. For the rest of the season, the team went 26-18-4.
