Report: Hurricanes sign Kevin Labanc to PTO

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Kevin Labanc to a professional tryout (PTO), according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

Labanc, 29, played 34 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2024-25, scoring two goals and adding 10 assists for 12 points. Through nine NHL seasons with the Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks, eight of which were with the Sharks, the 29-year-old winger has 84 goals and 153 assists for 237 points in 512 regular-season games.

His best season came in 2018-19, hitting career highs in all offensive categories with 17 goals and 39 assists for 56 points with the Sharks.

Labanc, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., has also played in 30 Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring five goals and nine assists for 14 points.

Labanc has also played in 21 career AHL regular-season games, scoring seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points.

Taken in the sixth round by the Sharks in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Labanc spent three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Barrie Colts. In 198 regular-season games, he scored 81 goals and recorded 188 assists for 269 points.

Labanc found postseason success with the Colts, recording 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points in 35 OHL playoff games.

The Hurricanes finished the 2024-25 season with a 47-30-5 record and 99 points, second in the Metropolitan Division. The Hurricanes defeated the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals in the first two rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but were eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the third round.

Forward Sebastian Aho led the team in assists and points, finishing with 29 goals and 45 assists for 74 points. Seth Jarvis led the way with 32 goals to go along with 35 assists for 67 points.
