Toronto police say they have arrested and charged a 37-year-old man with three counts of assault and one assault of a police offer in relation to an assault investigation at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday night.
On the weekend, a video clip began to circulate on Leafs Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) showing what appeared to be security staff members restraining a person in the concourse of the arena where the Toronto Maple Leafs were hosting the Colorado Avalanche. In the confrontation, three people are restraining a patron. One of them in a blue suit applies pressure to patron's head with his knee.
Fans can be seen in the video surrounding the incident with many pointing out to security officials that the accused is bleeding.
Although there is no footage about what led to the incident, the news release from 52 Division says the Ancaster, Ontario, native became confrontational with security after staff went to check on his well-being. After police came to arrest the man, the patron allegedly assaulted the officer.
"MLSE is aware of a security incident that took place on Saturday, Jan. 13 and is conducting a full investigation, in co-operation with Toronto Police Service," a Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment spokesman told multiple news outlets, including the Toronto Star.
The local newspaper pointed out that no Toronto paramedics were dispatched to the arena that night. Police would also not confirm if the video circulating is the one that is directly related to the charges.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Mar. 2 It's not immediately clear if any other charges will stem from the incident in question.
