Roberto Luongo reacts on Twitter after being named to the Hockey Hall of Fame
NHL: Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo took to Twitter on Monday afternoon after the Hockey Hall of Fame named him a member of its 2022 Class of inductees.

Luongo, 43, has posted on Twitter under the handle @strombone1 since 2011. The 19-year NHL goaltender is one of three Canucks alumni set to enter the Hall this year, along with Henrik and Daniel Sedin.

The Sedin twins played with a vast assortment of linemates during their Canucks tenure, something Luongo poked fun at in his first tweet on Monday.

It’s no Mattress Line, but it does feature three Hall of Fame players (and two former captains, to boot).

Former Canucks enforcer Tom Sestito was quick to congratulate his teammate on Twitter and also made mention of his first NHL goal, which he scored against Luongo while playing with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

“Not everyone gets [their] 1st NHL goal on a HHOF goalie,” Sestito said. “Thanks for doing the easy part and getting to the HHOF! Credit to me for scoring.”

“Actually, pretty much everyone got their first NHL goal against me,” Luongo responded.

Luongo appeared in 1,044 regular-season NHL games with the Canucks, Florida Panthers, and New York Islanders during his career, posting 489 wins (fourth all-time) and a .919 save percentage.

Sestito played in 154 games with the Blue Jackets, Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins, recording 21 points — two fewer than Luongo’s career total.

Former Canucks defenceman and current Sportsnet analyst Kevin Bieksa also congratulated Luongo and the Sedins, tweeting pictures of all three players with a common theme: “chaos in the crease.”

Luongo’s response: “Can’t teach the goaltending style on the right anymore.”

Luongo, the Sedins, Daniel Alfredsson, Riikka Salinnen, and Herb Carnegie will all be officially indicted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 14.
