The Laval Rocket finished up a strong weekend by beating the Belleville Senators 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, thanks to a late game-winning goal by Laurent Dauphin in the 3rd period. With this win, the Rocket won both of their games on the weekend. On Friday night, they beat the Hartford Wolfpack 4-2 at Place Bell. The Rocket have improved to 8-4 on the year and are now in a 3-way tie for first in the North Division with the Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch.

On Friday, it was the Rocket’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer night, which meant that the team wore special jerseys that are currently being auctioned off to raise money for the Charles-Bruneau Cancer Foundation. You have until Monday night to put in bids to win the jerseys worn by the players on Friday night. All the proceeds will go to the Charles-Bruneau Foundation. The player who stood out the most yet again this weekend was Jared Davidson, who managed to score big goals in both games for the Rocket. The goal on Friday was scored on the power play to get the Rocket on the board and tie the game at 1. David Reinbacher also got an assist on the goal for his 2nd point of the year. Reinbacher is still getting back into game form since coming back a week before, but he is starting to piece things together.

During Sunday’s game, Davidson’s goal came from a point shot that beat the Senators’ netminder to tie the game 2-2. His wrist went through a lot of traffic on its way to the net. Davidson now has 9 goals on the season, which is tied for the most goals in the AHL. It seems like the more he plays in Laval, the more he looks ready for his first stint in the NHL.

However, with how the Canadiens have been running their roster as of late, he’s unlikely to get a call-up unless an injury happens. Nonetheless, hopefully, he gets the next opportunity to come up sooner or later, as Davidson is a true gamer. He can do a bit of everything, and looks like he can be a great fit in the bottom six.

Another player who had a good weekend offensively was Sean Farrell, who played the role of playmaker, finishing the two games with 3 assists. This included an assist on Alex Belzile’s game-winner on Friday and another one on Dauphin’s winner on Sunday.

When it came to the other goal scorers on the weekend, there were Joshua Roy and Tobie Paquette-Bisson (empty net marker), who got on the board on Friday. On Sunday, it was Filip Mesar opened the scoring with his 2nd goal of the season against the Senators.

Both goaltenders also had a good weekend; Fowler made 25 saves on 27 shots in Friday’s victory. Meanwhile, Kahkonen did the job on Sunday in Belleville, making 21 stops on 23 shots.

The Rocket will be back in action on Wednesday in a morning game in Springfield against the Thunderbirds at 10:35 am ET, hoping to build on their recent success over the last few matchups.
