Ryan Reaves is the newest member of the San Jose Sharks, and in his first interview after joining the team, he opens up on his new role with his new team.
After a disappointing run with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ryan Reaves is now moving on after a recent trade to the San Jose Sharks, one that he reveals he requested, noting that he couldn't be happier to move on.
'The way things ended in Toronto, it wasn't exactly how I wanted. It was time to move on. I'm happy that Treliving out in Toronto found a spot for me, and I couldn't be more happy in San Jose.'
In his latest interview, Reaves opened up on the new opportunity in San Jose, stating that he knows his role with his new team and is excited to protect the young stars that these Sharks will send to the ice in 2025/26.
'They definitely didn't sign me for my goal scoring.I know my role, and I know what I need to bring to this team.'
Once upon a time, Reaves was a rival of these Sharks during his time with the Vegas Golden Knights, and although he's excited for this new chance, he reveals that this is a team he never would have wanted to end up on unless he spent time away from them as a rival.
'I think it's definitely good that there was a little buffer in between to let that cool off a little. There have been a few teams over the years that I would've said I never would've gone to just because of the rivalries that were going on, Chicago when I played in St. Louis. Then, probably San Jose from our days in Vegas.'
Now however, that history is in the past with so many players on this team not being in the league during Reaves' time as a Golden Knight, and with a job to do protecting the likes of Will Smith, Macklin Celebrini and perhaps even Michael Misa, it's safe to say that he's got the perfect opportunity to make an impact in the coming year.
