While the NHL world is focused on NHL Free Agency, trades are still being made for teams to better position themselves for other targets, either in free agency or through other trades. One of the potential trade targets on the market could be Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets.  Now, the Buffalo Sabres have positioned themselves to require another netminder.

The Sabres have traded Devon Levi to the Edmonton Oilers, according to a release by the team.

The Sabres also sent a 2028 seventh-round pick in the NHL Draft to the Oilers. The Sabres got back a 2028 third-round pick in return.

Levi was the 212th overall selection of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers. He would never play for the franchise, as his rights would be traded in 2021 to the Sabres as part of the deal that sent Sam Reinhart to the Panthers. After spending time at Northeastern University, he would join the Sabres in the 2022-23 season.

At the NHL level, Levi has played in 39 games, going 17-17-2 with a 329 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. Still, he has primarily been an AHL-level netminder. Over the past two seasons, he has played just nine games for the Sabres. Meanwhile, He has played in 94 games for the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

This past season, he went 23-20-9 with a 2.83 goals-agaisnt average and a .904 save percentage. The Oilers currently have Tristan Jarry on the roster, with Connor Ingram as an unrestricted free agent.
