We’re in the middle of the Stanley Cup playoffs. But with no hockey until Saturday, all the hockey world’s attention is focused on… something else.
And right now, the “something else” in question is the combine. And, of course, there are the trade rumours.
And the great thing about the scheme is that everyone is saying the right things. You’ll note the irony here, since the fact that everyone’s pulling out the tape makes the whole thing rather… predictable.
Cr***, the kids are so prepared that, sometimes, you wonder if you’re looking at a facade or the real kid. – A team member
In an article on the subject, journalist Éric Leblanc reports on the words of several people in the industry who say they’re tired of talking to robots in preparation for the combine.
It doesn’t give you a chance to get to know the kids, which is the whole point of the game.
You’d come out of the day, interviewed 32 kids, and 31 of them said they had no problems. – A recruiter
The Combine, a formula to be revamped for a few reasons. “It’s a bit robotic. Cr***, the kids are so prepared that, sometimes, you wonder if you’re looking at a facade or the real kid.” @RDSca #LNH #NHL https://t.co/8kWgjdoSuf

That’s why we have to take some and leave some with that day.
Take Sacha Boisvert, for example. The Quebecer has chatted to 29 of the 32 teams… and the three teams he hasn’t chatted to (Tampa Bay, New Jersey and Vancouver) have no choice in the waters where he has to go out.
But is it still possible to dig up information? The answer is yes.
If we scratch around a bit, we can see that the Habs, when they met with the Quebecer, made sure that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton were on hand to grill the young man, as they don’t attend every meeting. Guillaume Lefrançois (La Presse) reports.

Let’s not forget that the Habs, if they keep their 26th overall pick, have a good chance of drafting a center in the Boisvert mold. That’s what we understand from reading the mock drafts circulating.
It remains to be seen whether Boisvert will be available when the Habs pick him. If so, he could be drafted by the Flanelle.

My column on @PierreHoudeRDS, who is much more than just a Canadiens’ play-by-play voice. He’s also a French teacher and the epitome of a gentleman as well as being this year’s winner of the Hall of Fame’s Foster Hewitt Memorial Award. #Habs #HabsIO: https://t.co/w7UI0ofX4u
