During a recent episode of The Flying V podcast, The Athletic’s Vincent Mercogliano presented a trade package sending Vincent Trocheck to the Minnesota Wild. Trocheck will be a highly-sought after option on the trade market as the deadline approaches, and the Wild appear to be one of the early frontrunners to acquire him.
Mercogliano suggested the following:
The New York Rangers could land a 1st-round pick (likely 2027/2028 from Minnesota), Charlie Stramel — the Wild’s 2023 1st-rounder, playing at Michigan State right now and with B+ prospect upside — , and a secondary piece. At best, it might be a mid-level D prospect (e.g., Jiříček/Lambos type) OR a mid-round pick.
Mercogliano says this fits as a solid haul for Trocheck, who has three years remaining on his deal at $5.625 million per season. Given Minnesota’s need for a gritty second-line center and GM Bill Guerin‘s admiration for the player, there might be something here.
Trocheck even joked about the Wild at the Olympics, standing with the team to take a picture as though he was on the roster.
The Detroit Red Wings and the Carolina Hurricanes are two other teams that have rumored interest in a Trocheck trade. Trocheck has a 12-team no-trade clause in his deal. While he does have some leverage to determine where he wants to go, it might not be enough to dictate the return in any particular deal.
