The 2025-26 season was a roller coaster for the Seattle Kraken. They had their best start ever and won their first home opener in their five seasons in the league. The Kraken were primed to take a playoff spot by American Thanksgiving, which is usually a decent indicator of who will make the postseason. However, with two major downswings in December and at the end of the season, the Kraken finished with a final record of 34-37-11.

At the end of the day, there is no one person to blame for the Kraken’s demise. Hockey is a team sport, and it was a team effort in the end. Each player did their part to try and give Seattle a fighting chance at the postseason, but unfortunately, it was not enough. Some players had better performances than others. In this installment of the 2025-26 Kraken Report Cards, we’ll analyze and grade forward Jared McCann’s performance.

2025-26 Performance

In the 2025-26 season, McCann played 52 games and recorded 40 points (20 goals and 20 assists). He missed several games due to a lower-body injury: a 17-game stretch, a seven-game stretch, and a three-game stretch to end the season.

McCann scored his first goal in the Kraken’s first game of the season, on Oct. 9. They were already leading 2-1 by the third period, and McCann’s goal four minutes in helped extend their lead and record their first-ever home opener win. This kicked off a three-game point streak where he recorded four points, giving McCann a great start to the season.

Unfortunately, two games later, on Oct. 18, McCann suffered his first lower-body injury of the season, sidelining him for 17 games. He returned on Nov. 26, playing in six games and recording four points, before he was out with another lower-body injury. He returned seven games later on Dec. 28, and one game after that, he kicked off a streak of seven points in six games. Although he was injured, McCann came back and was determined to make an impact.

Impact With Seattle

McCann began the season on the top line alongside Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle. He had been shifting between the first and second line before and after returning from his injury, but after the Kraken traded for Bobby McMann, he became a steady fixture amongst the middle six players.

McCann was a consistent scorer throughout the season, and he was a great veteran presence for Shane Wright when he played alongside him.

Future in Seattle

McCann is entering the final year of his five-year contract. At the end of the 2026-27 season, he will be an unrestricted free agent (UFA).

There is no denying the impact McCann has had on the Kraken organization over the first five seasons of the team’s existence. He is the Kraken’s all-time points leader with 283 points in 367 games, ahead of Jordan Eberle who has 232 points in 361 games.

At the end of the day, the Kraken can’t make McCann re-sign. He will be a UFA and can sign wherever he wants next July. However, the Kraken would be remiss if they didn’t at least try and re-sign him.

Overall Grade

For the 2025-26 season, McCann receives a B. He was injured for a good chunk of the campaign, but when he did play, he made a strong impact on the score sheet. Considering he was out for over a quarter of the season and still managed to finish fifth overall in points, McCann was impactful while he was on the ice.

For the upcoming 2026-27 season, McCann has the chance to make an even bigger impact, provided he remains healthy.
