The Ottawa Senators acquired Fabian Zetterlund, Tristen Robins, and a fourth-round pick in exchange for Zack Ostapchuk, Noah Gregor, and a 2025 second-round pick from the San Jose Sharks.

Ottawa Continues to Add Forward Depth

After an early blockbuster deal that saw the Senators trade Josh Norris for Dylan Cozens of the Buffalo Sabres in a package, Ottawa stayed quiet for most of the afternoon. Still, they finalized one final deal as the clock struck 3 PM EST.

He was with the Sharks for the past three seasons, during which he played in 168 games and recorded 83 points, consisting of 41 goals and 42 assists. His plus/minus rating was minus-36, and he accumulated 22 power-play points, with 10 of those being goals. Additionally, he had a faceoff percentage of 43.1%. This season, in 64 games, he has 36 points on 17 goals and 19 assists. His current plus/minus rating is plus-8, and he has six power-play points, four of which are goals. This season, he also boasts a faceoff percentage of 60. He is in the final season of his contract, which is worth $1.45 million, and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Robins, 23 years old, was drafted in the 2020 NHL Draft in the second round with the 56th pick. With the San Jose Barracuda in the American Hockey League (AHL), he had seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. He is a skilled puck-handler who seamlessly blends pass receptions with intricate maneuvers, often leaving his opponents frozen with deceptive moves. The combination of shooting, puck handling, and support in the offensive zone that Robins demonstrates will be special if he can fully utilize and grow it with the Senators. He is also in the final year of his entry-level contract (ELC) and will be a restricted free agent this summer.

Sharks Continue to Acquire Assets

The Sharks have been busy this season, moving many players to gather more prospects and draft capital to continue building for their future. Jake Walman, Mikael Granlund, and MacKenzie Blackwood were dealt for draft picks and prospects as they build around Macklin Celebrini, William Eklund, and more. The 2025 pick in the second round is Ottawa’s and will be the Sharks’ second second-round pick, moving them up to 10 total picks this coming draft.

Ostapchuk has played 50 games over the past two seasons, in which he has recorded four points, consisting of one goal and three assists. He currently has a minus-8 rating, along with 17 blocked shots and 99 hits. All of his points have come in 43 games this season. He has one more season left on his ELC. Gregor has played in 40 games, in which he has scored four goals and provided two assists, totaling six points. He is a supplemental roster addition to the team, carrying a salary cap hit of $850,000. This summer, he will be a restricted free agent.
