On Wednesday, the San Jose Sharks finalized a deal to acquire forward Shane Bowers from the New Jersey Devils . In return, the Devils received forward Thomas Bordeleau.

Bowers has been moving around a little bit over the past couple of years. Prior to the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, he was dealt to the Boston Bruins from the Colorado Avalanche, before being moved to the Devils that following summer. Though he has seen some time in the NHL, the Halifax native has spent the majority of his career in the American Hockey League.

This past season, along with playing four games for the Devils, Bowers scored three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 65 games with the Utica Comets. In 282 AHL games, he’s notched 44 goals and 53 assists for 97 points, including five points in 11 Calder Cup Playoff games. The 25-year-old has yet to register a point in 13 NHL appearances.

Bowers has one more year on his two-year contract that he signed with New Jersey, which has a cap hit of $775,000.

Bordeleau had been with the Sharks since he was taken by the team in the second round, 38th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. The most time he saw with the big club came during the 2023-24 season, where he scored six goals and five assists for 11 points in 27 games. In 44 games with the Sharks, the former Michigan Wolverine has potted six goals and 12 assists for 18 points.

In 161 games with the Sharks’ AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda, Bordeleau has scored 47 goals and 60 assists for 107 points. The Devils have Bordeleau’s signing rights, as he’s a restricted free agent after finishing up his latest contract.

The Sharks also re-signed forward Pavol Regenda to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal carries an NHL cap hit of $775,000, a minor-league salary of $350,000, with $400,000 guaranteed.

Regenda came to the Sharks in January of last season, as he was traded to San Jose by the Anaheim Ducks for Justin Bailey. Regenda spent the entire 2024-25 season in the AHL with the Barracuda and San Diego Gulls, scoring 13 goals and 28 assists for 38 points in 72 games, including three goals in six Calder Cup Playoff games with San Jose.

Previously, the Slovakian has appeared in 19 games with the Ducks, scoring a goal and an assist. In 176 AHL games, Regenda has notched 45 goals and 55 assists for 100 points.
