The San Jose Sharks have made a few roster changes ahead of their upcoming contest against the Vancouver Canucks. According to a team announcement, the Sharks recalled forward Filip Bystedt and defenseman Libor Hájek from the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda. San Jose also moved forwards Igor Chernyshov and Alexander Wennberg to the injured reserve, and reassigned defenseman Luca Cagnoni.

San Jose drafted 22-year-old Bystedt in the early stages of its rebuild with the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He had an impressive season with the J20 Nationell’s Linköping HC, scoring 16 goals and 49 points in 40 games with a +23 rating. In the SHL, Bystedt registered a goal and an assist in 15 appearances.

The Linköping, Sweden, native spent a few more years in the SHL before moving to North America toward the end of the 2023-24 season. He continued to improve in Sweden’s top professional league and put together two strong performances at the U20 World Junior Championships, scoring seven goals and 14 points in 14 games and helping Team Sweden win a silver medal.

In his first full AHL season, Bystedt was a strong secondary contributor, scoring 12 goals and 31 points in 50 games with a +4 rating. However, since his rookie campaign, he’s been dominant. Since the start of the 2025-26 campaign, Bystedt has registered 26 goals and 68 points in 73 games for the Barracuda. Already carrying high expectations as a first-round pick, Bystedt has cemented himself as a puzzle piece of the Sharks’ long-term forward corps.

Meanwhile, Hájek has the opportunity to play in his first NHL contest since the 2022-23 campaign, then with the New York Rangers. The former second-round pick joined San Jose this past offseason after spending the last three years with the Czech Extraliga’s HC Dynamo Pardubice. Hájek scored 13 goals and 32 points in 111 games with a +26 rating overseas.

Failing to make the Sharks’ opening-night roster, Hájek survived the waiver wire before the season started. He has played in eight games for the Barracuda this season, tallying a goal and an assist with a +1 rating.

Cagnoni, 21, is the defenseman who will cede his spot to Hájek. The former fourth-round pick has played in nine of a possible 13 games for the Sharks, registering a goal and an assist while averaging 17:29 of ice time per game. Cagnoni has shown an increased willingness to block shots, but is an offensive-minded defenseman by trade.

He had far too many defensive shortcomings to warrant a consistent roster spot, especially with a lack of offensive production. He’ll return to the Barracuda, where he has already recorded 24 goals and 95 points in 131 career games.

Lastly, the Sharks have moved Chernyshov and Wennberg to the injured reserve, as expected. Both forwards are recovering from upper-body injuries and are considered week-to-week. Chernyshov has not played since October 22nd, while Wennberg hasn’t since October 19th.
