Sharks Set for Big Announcement Involving Macklin Celebrini

The San Jose Sharks appear ready to hand their captaincy to one of the league’s brightest young stars. According to multiple reports, including San Jose Hockey Now and insider Sheng Peng, the decision is “all but certain,” with an official announcement expected before the regular season begins.

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan first floated the possibility back in May, and subsequent reporting has essentially confirmed the Sharks are going this direction. When official, the 20-year-old would become the 11th full-time captain in franchise history — and the first player to wear the “C” since Logan Couture stepped away from the role.

The decision was likely easy. Celebrini has taken the NHL by storm, posting a 115-point season in just his second year as an NHL pro. He then made Team Canada and represented well at the Olympics, and the Sharks signed him to an $18.8 million extension this offseason.
