William Eklund suffered a brutal injury playing for Team Sweden, but the update he gave on social media was certainly a very positive one.
At 22-years of age, William Eklund has become a massive potential star of the future for the San Jose Sharks, and as a result of his recent production, he found himself representing Sweden ahead of the 2025 IIHF World Championships.
Unfortunately, in a warmup game against Switzerland, he was involved in a very scary accident, as one of his opponents accidentally cut him with his skate blade in the wrist, with Eklund immediately dropping his gloves and covering his wrist on the way to the bench.
It looked very ugly on first viewing, and given what we've seen happen with skates in recent times, fans were definitely worried, and shortly after the incident, his agent gave this update:
'He's stable, looks like it didn't cut key tendons or nerves at the moment.'
Now, we've also heard from Eklund, who gave fans an update on social media, and while his wrist was in a cast as he's being looked after by medical professionals, he made it clear that everything will be fine.
Everything is fine
This is great news for the 22-year old that posted a career high of 58 points in 77 games played this last season for San Jose, and while a potential timeline for return is yet to be determined, avoiding serious injury is a major win for Eklund.
We will continue to provide updates as they come in, as Eklund could be on the way back before the IIHF World Championships, or he could be out for months, so while we know he's okay, we will wait and find out what the potential return timeline will be.
