Brayden Schenn served as the team captain for the last two and a half seasons. His trade to the New York Islanders last season left the team without a captain. They played the remainder of the season without one.
Thomas has been with the Blues since being drafted in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2018-19 season, playing a key role on the third line for a team that would go on to win the Stanley Cup.
The Ontario native has grown into one of the top forwards in the NHL. In 2023-24 and 2024-25, he posted 80+ points and 60 assists. Furthermore, he earned votes for the Hart Trophy in 2024-25.
Thomas will wear the “C” for the Blues this season. We also know who will serve as alternate captains. Colton Parayko, who was likely also considered for the “C,” will continue to serve as an alternate. Jake Neighbours, Philip Broberg, and Dylan Holloway will also wear the “A” for the Blues.
During a game, a team can either have one captain and two alternates or three alternates. As a result, not all listed alternates will wear the “A” in each game. There will be a rotation determined.
The 2026-27 season marks a new era for the Blues. Alexander Steen is entering his first season as general manager. Joel Hofer is entering his first season as the starting goaltender. Furthermore, the organization hopes to see continued growth and contributions from their young players, such as Jimmy Snuggerud and Dalibor Dvorsky.
It was not clear if the Blues would choose a captain for this season. However, now that we have, it is just the latest example of this season being a new chapter. Training camp is approaching, and the excitement for the upcoming season only grows.
