The Stars will welcome back a key defenseman tonight against Columbus. The team announced (Twitter link) that Esa Lindell has been activated off injured reserve. To make room on the roster, blueliner Kyle Capobianco was placed on IR retroactive to October 27th, per a separate announcement from the team (Twitter link).
Lindell has missed the last five games due to a lower-body injury sustained against Chicago. The 32-year-old isn’t a big contributor offensively but he is a top shutdown defender for Dallas. Through eight games this season, Lindell is still looking for his first point while recording 18 blocks in a little under 21 minutes per night. Last season, he had 32 points and 179 blocks in 82 appearances with more than 23 minutes per game of ice time during the regular season, a number that climbed past the 25-minute mark in the postseason. His return will no doubt be a welcome one
As for Capobianco, it’s no surprise that he landed on IR as it was noted earlier this week that he’d miss approximately four weeks with a leg injury. The 29-year-old has made five appearances with Dallas after making the team out of training camp. He’s still looking for his first point of the campaign while averaging just under 11 minutes per night of playing time.
Meanwhile, veteran winger David Perron is set to make his Stars debut, according to Matthew Mangam of the Dallas Morning News. The 38-year-old signed a one-year contract worth the prorated league minimum a little over two weeks ago but has been given a gradual ramp-up to get up to speed. He had 28 points in 65 games last season and will look to give Dallas some similar depth production. Perron will take the place of Matthew Seminoff, who, per a team announcement (Twitter link), was sent to AHL Texas yesterday.
