The Dallas Stars head into the middle of their first-round series dealing with a key absence down the middle.
Dallas split the opening two games against the Minnesota Wild, bouncing back with a 4-2 win after dropping the opener.
The series now shifts to Minnesota tied 1-1, with the Stars leaning on depth scoring and adjusted lines.
That approach will continue without one of their top forwards, who has been unavailable throughout the series.
Roope Hintz has not played since March 6 after suffering a lower-body injury against the Colorado Avalanche.
The 29-year-old also experienced a setback during recovery and has yet to return to skating.
Head coach Glen Gulutzan provided the latest update as the team traveled for Game 3 on Tuesday.
“He’s not traveling,” Gulutzan said. “Game 3, he won’t be there; Game 4, I would say, is very doubtful.”
Gulutzan quote on Hintz: “Game 3, won't be there. Game 4, I would say, is very doubtful. So, hopefully by the time we get back we're in a good spot and he's in a good spot.”

Gulutzan added that the team is looking further ahead for a possible return window.
“Hopefully by the time we get back, we’re in a good spot, and he’s in a good spot,” Gulutzan said.
Hintz has been ruled out of the early part of the series, with Game 5 now viewed as the earliest potential return.
The forward recorded 44 points in 53 games this season, playing a top-line role before the injury.
He has also been a key contributor in past playoff runs, with 69 points in 95 career postseason games.
Dallas has managed to stay competitive without him, using a committee approach to fill the gap.
Players throughout the lineup have taken on expanded roles as the Stars look to maintain pace in the series.
Game 3 will continue without Hintz, with Game 4 also unlikely to include the center based on the current timeline.
