Jason Robertson’s future in Texas is not locked in, but he’s also not being pushed out the door by the Dallas Stars.
According to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun, the Stars have taken calls from teams inquiring about the 25-year-old winger, but only to gauge the market in case an extension proves unworkable and they ultimately decide to trade the forward instead of risking losing him for nothing.
The Stars are fresh off a playoff run and have made other moves to free up cap space, including trading Mason Marchment, allowing them to re-sign Matt Duchene.
But with just $2.7 million in cap space remaining, Dallas is being cautious with its next steps and doing due diligence, particularly with a high-value asset like Robertson ahead of his final season under contract.

“After making several calls around the league this past week, here’s what I make of the Jason Robertson situation,” LeBrun wrote. “The Stars aren’t actively shopping him but are listening on him to educate themselves on the market and what teams might be willing to do at some point.”
LeBrun added that Dallas views Robertson’s value as peaking right now, with one year left at a $7.75 million cap hit and two more years of team control (as a restricted free agent) before he’s eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2027.
"The Stars are also trying to gauge Robertson’s camp (...) to get a feel for what their ask would be on the next contract,” LeBrun reported.
Robertson tallied 35 goals and 45 assists in 82 games last season.
If the price for an extension is reasonable, Dallas will likely keep the four-time 70-point scorer. If it’s steep and rigid, LeBrun noted, the Stars may revisit the conversations they’ve started.
“This is a slow-play situation,” LeBrun wrote. “He’s either extended by the end of the summer or traded in August.”
