According to a team announcement, the Dallas Stars have signed defensemen Kyle Capobianco and Luke Krys to two-year extensions. Capobiano’s will be a one-way contract with an $850K salary in the first year of the deal, and $900K in the second.
After falling out of the Arizona Coyotes organization and failing to gain much traction with the Winnipeg Jets, Capobianco, 28, landed with the Stars before the 2024-25 season. He spent nearly the entire season with the AHL’s Texas Stars, registering an impressive seven goals and 50 points in 65 games with a +25 rating, including another two goals and 13 points in 14 postseason contests.
Because of his impressive season in the AHL and the lack of depth on the NHL roster due to limited cap flexibility, Capobianco found his way on Dallas’ roster for much of the 2025-26 season. It was largely as the team’s seventh defenseman, but Capobianco managed to make 33 appearances for the Stars, scoring two goals and five points with a +1 rating, averaging 12:08 of ice time per game. Although he’s not expected to be in a more consistent role next season, the Stars have rewarded Capobianco for his efforts and are happy to continue using him in a depth role moving forward.
Meanwhile, Krys, 25, has yet to debut in the NHL. Spending his collegiate days at Brown University before transferring to Providence College, Krys signed as a collegiate free agent with the Stars toward the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Since then, he has spent his entire professional career in the AHL with Texas. The Ridgefield, CT native has been fairly consistent throughout his tenure with the team, registering 11 goals and 35 points in 113 games with a +9 rating.
