Team Canada and Team Sweden have officially named their starting goaltenders for the 4 Nations Face-Off opener tonight in Montreal.
After a few days with no hockey, fans were just beginning to get a little stir crazy. Thankfully, tonight, Team Canada plays host to Team Sweden for the first game of the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Maple Leafs teammates Mitch Marner and William Nylander will face off against each other this evening in best-on-best competition and it couldn't be more exciting.
Marner is the envy of the league, having drawn the top line assignment for Team Canada, alongside Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid. Meanwhile, Nylander has also drawn a top line assignment for Sweden.
As far as the starting goalies are concerned, Minnesota Wild netminder Filip Gustavsson has drawn the opening game for Sweden.
After much speculation that Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill would start for Canada, everyone was thrown for a bit of a loop when it was announced that Jordan Binnington would get the nod.
Like Hill, Binnington, another former Stanley Cup winner, is a proven winner and has a lot more experience. Binnington has 319 regular season NHL games under his belt, while Hill has started just 170 career NHL games. Both goaltenders have season save percentages around .900 this season and will need to elevate their games in this tournament to help propel Canada to victory.
